Veronica Wilshire, Secretary

Dr. Veronica Wiltshire is a board-certified Pediatrician. She is the former Chief Medical Officer for United Health Centers in Winston Salem and Joseph P Addabbo Family health in Queens New York. She is currently at Atrium One health Pediatrics in Winston Salem, North Carolina. During her time in New York, as chief medical officer she was instrumental in leading six clinics during the height of the Covid-19 pandemic. Together with her team, she was able to help set up the first COVID-19 tent testing in Far Rockaway, Queens New York enabling access to COVID-19 testing to hundreds of people in what was deemed a “hot zone”. Dr Wiltshire also leads her various clinic teams through the implementation and roll out of the COVID-19 vaccination.

Dr. Wiltshire was born and raised in Victoria Village, Guyana. She attended Enmore Hope Primary school in Guyana. She migrated to Antigua and Barbuda at the age of 10 and then to the US at 13 years old. Furthermore, she attended Canarsie High school in Brooklyn where she graduated as Valedictorian for the class of 1998. She received her Bachelor of Science degree from St Francis College in Brooklyn, New York and her medical degree from Ross University School of Medicine in Dominica. She completed her pediatric residency program at SUNY Downstate Medical Center in Brooklyn, New York. In 2021 She relocated to Winston Salem, North Carolina with her family. Dr. Wiltshire’s passion is advocacy for health equity, and most of her focus is working with various organizations and groups that are focusing on initiatives to help fight health disparities. In 2023, she founded the Wiltshire Clinical Quality Improvement and Innovations Consulting Company where she helps community health centers throughout the US to improve their quality metrics which impacts positive patient outcomes. She is also the co-founder for Sole Support Guyana, which is a non-profit organization that donates barely used and new shoes for orphans in Guyana. She has been nominated for the leadership Winston Salem Program class of 2025 which provides an opportunity for her to work on various projects with other leaders in the community.

Dr. Wiltshire is the recipient of numerous awards, city council citations and scholarships, including: the Ken Rampersaud Internation Women’s award in 2023, 2019 “Women of Influence” Award from the Guyanese Girls Rock Foundation; “2019 Special Recognition Education Award” from the American Academy of Pediatrics for her contributions in Education; and the 2018 Danny Glover “Women of Power” Award for empowering rural women and girls. She is a fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics. As secretary of the HERO board of directors’, Dr Wiltshire’s goal is to work with the team to help improve HERO’s mission to provide access to healthcare to those in need. Dr. Wiltshire is a proud Guyanese who has been a part of HERO for about 8 years. Her favorite part of being on the mission in Guyana is answering questions about “being a doctor and journey to becoming a doctor” from the children who come to be seen in the clinics. She feels very privileged to be a part of HERO, an organization that has been doing impactful work for over 20 years.

Dr. Wiltshire’s interests include community health, community service and mentorship. She gives of her time to mentor many minority students who are interested in medicine, and empowers young women to be confident and strive to be leaders in their fields. Dr. Wiltshireenjoys traveling to different US states with her husband and four kids, she enjoys learning about new cultures and meeting new people. She loves visiting Guyana and believes Guyana has the nicest people, best food and smartest women.
